If one of your teeth is damaged, your dentist may recommend a dental crown to address the situation.
A crown is a small, tooth-shaped cap that fits over your tooth. It can hide a discolored or misshapen tooth or even a tooth implant.
A crown can also protect or restore a broken, worn-down, or damaged tooth. A crown can hold a dental bridge in place, too.
You have options when it comes to choosing the type of crown you receive.
Crowns can be made from a variety of different materials, including:
A popular choice is the CEREC crown, which is often made out of a very strong ceramic and is designed, created, and installed using computer-assisted technology.
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. You typically get one of these crowns as part of a same-day procedure that will get you in and out of the dentist’s chair in one afternoon.
To begin your crown treatment, your mouth will be numbed and cleaned, and your tooth will be shaped to remove any damaged enamel and prepare for the crown. Dr. Saleki will then use a special camera and a powder-based substance to take photos and 3D images of your mouth. This information is uploaded to our in-office CEREC CAD/CAM machine, where your crown will be created.
Dr. Saleki will modify and adjust the 3D image of your tooth, and once it looks perfect, the machine will carve your crown in just a few minutes. After this, he’ll check the crown for the proper fit and finish, and place it permanently in your mouth using dental cement. Once it is affixed to your tooth, it will be cleaned and polished, and you’ll leave Our Office with a new, beautiful tooth!
CEREC is convenient, affordable, and offers identical results to traditional crowns. Not only that, it allows you to complete your appointment in just a single day, which saves you time both and money. In addition, you won’t need to wear a temporary crown for 2-3 weeks while your permanent crown is being manufactured. Finally, CEREC crowns are strong and durable, and they look and feel just like a real tooth, making them a great long-term way to repair damaged teeth.
